Knowing When Behavioral Healthcare is Needed for Your Patients

As your patient's trusted medical advisor and principal point of entry into the healthcare system, you already are acutely aware of the growing number of individuals presenting with both physical and behavioral health disorders. That is why Magellan is providing our health plans' practitioners access to a variety of resources through our Primary Care Physician (PCP) toolkit, patient referral services and expert behavioral health consultations.

Organized by category, the materials in this PCP toolkit are designed to give medical practitioners the information and screening tools needed to assist in making behavioral health referrals. The toolkit represents our commitment to promote integration of medical and behavioral health services toward the goal of better overall outcomes for patients.  

Consultations and Referrals

Given the complex relationship between the human body and mind -- and the breadth of specialties available -- matching the patient with the right behavioral health provider can sometimes seem like a daunting feat. We're here to help.

  • Call the number on the back of the member ID card to arrange a referral to a behavioral health provider. A care manager will work with you to determine the most appropriate resource based on patient need and preference, provider specialty and provider location as well as other specific member requests or considerations.
  • Request a consultation with a Magellan medical director by calling the number on the back of the member ID card and identifying yourself as a treating medical provider.
